"Nature" becomes "Nature India", though partly

Shiva Ayyadurai's controversial Nature India article now is listed as Nature India, rather than Nature, as it was before.

S. Ayyadurai, Commentary: Innovation Demands Freedom, Nature India, December, 2009.

After public outrage on various Blogs including nanoplitan, it is heartening to see how the CV got back in shape, though after a big delay.

Incidentally, his resume on his own website www.vashiva.com reads otherwise.

S. Ayyadurai, Commentary: Innovation Demands Freedom, Nature, December, 2009.

Hope this Blog will open eyes and instigate Shiva to stop feeding misinformation.

Scientist writes Open Letter against Unethical practices by Deepak Sardana and Shiva Ayyadurai

Today, Senior Scientist at the Institute of Microbial Technology and Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Awardee, Dr GPS Raghava wrote an open mail to Deepak Sardana on the regular SPAM mails sent out by a group of people who call themselves "Freedom for Science"
http://www.wikio.co.uk/article/bhramachari-dg-csir-victimizes-csir-report-154756139

The entire letter is reproduced below:

Disturbing all scientist

I am one of senior scientist working in CSIR, I am getting continuos email from Deepak Sardana on behalf of Shiva. They never take my permission to enter my name in their mailing list, they have taken granted to send emails to CSIR scientists without taking their permission. This is against internet ethics, one can not advertise their propaganda via mailing list, without consent. I just ignore their previous emails because, I have lot of work to do. Today, I again got email with above content so I decided to respond as they are abusing CSIR system and intruding my privacy. Following is my response to above report

Dear Deepak
First place I am not convinced why CSIR hire you peoples. For me only reason for hiring Shiva was his experience in business. As far as science is concerned he is not even equivalent to good PhD student of India. My PhD student have better record of publication than Shiva. He is writing report he is a great scientist and know better than all CSIR scientists of India. I read report, it is nothing just obvious things, we all know weakness of CSIR system, it have number of reasons including poor salary of indian scientist in compare to their counter part in foreign country. The challenge is how to improve the system in given environment. Your duty was to improve system and improve it slowly using "leading by examples" instead of that you people started campaign against CSIR in order to defame it. If you read Shiva article in nature it is a childish report, their is no good idea except to abuse CSIR. One side you are abusing a system other side you expect that system will not fire you. Firing from job was obvious and you are expecting explanation from system. You people have no self respect, shiva should vacate his house immediately once he got fired from job. Instead he is abusing CSIR and wants to use facilities of CSIR, "What a shameless expectations". In world no univ/system/organization will allow a person to destroy the system itself where he/she is working. Why you expect CSIR should provide all facilities even your jobs were terminated. I think CSIR take right decision to remove you people, it is in favor of a system to remove a person as early as possible, who is destroying image of system.

Hire and fire is common all over the world but no body make political issue, if you people are not suitable for CSIR, why CSIR should keep you. One side you are claiming that you come to india to serve india other side you are crying like a frustrated struggler. You are expecting that CSIR scientist or DG CSIR should respond to Shiva queries in order to make him important. Regarding public debate see various blogs and debates and you will realize how great Shiva is, he is making wrong claims, changing his CV, boosting his contribution, including creation of confusing web pages http://stuff.mit.edu/people/vashiva/index.html .
No good scientist in world will support him, who understand science, as his contribution to science is negligible. You should understand he is on road after taking 4 degrees from MIT and in age of 45 years without making any significant contribution. I will advise you people to concentrate on your business and demonstrate your skill by doing something grate in western countries and prove your leadership skill. In life best way to lead public is by examples. Please forgive me if I am too rude, I write whatever I feel, these are my personal views.

With best wishes

Raghava

Another Blogger on Nature's One sided story

Note Dec 07/2009. We agree with Rahul on his comment. We have modified the Blog accordingly . Apologies on stating what you did not.

E's flat writes a Blog trivialising the Shiva Ayyadurai episode and pointing fingers at the Nature.

Nature seems to be having a vested interest in propagating the Shiva version of the story. This is in perfectly in sync with what Insider has been talking for quite some time now and the rising allegations against Nature, Nature India's editor and Nature correspondent.

Excerpts from the Blog

...it seems Nature is intent on promoting Shiva Ayyadurai's version of the story and will brook no dissent
also
Also, from this post (see comment), it seems that the Nature editors (in London, not India) objected to personal accusations made in those and other posts. I wonder, then, why they agreed not only to publish, but to highlight, accusations made by Shiva Ayyadurai in his article (which continues, as I write, to be frontpaged in the Nature India website) -- accusations which include fraud, financial wrongdoing, and arson to cover up the wrongdoing.
Is Nature listening ?

Faculty webpage on students' website ?

This seems a bit unusual, but you can see it for yourself here at URL:  http://stuff.mit.edu/people/vashiva/index.html . If you think this is the faculty website, I wish to be the devil's advocate. Though the website has uncanny resemblance to the faculty webpages, complete with the top banner and links (see the People link which points to the original MIT faculty pages at http://web.mit.edu/be/people/index.htm) Even the faculty link on the left hand corner points to the right faculty webpage http://web.mit.edu/be/people/index.htm

You may wonder if this is fine, until you see what the stuff.mit.edu is all about. The website says at http://stuff.mit.edu/about.html
stuff.mit.edu is a student-maintained web server whose primary purpose is to provide a customizable homepage designed specifically with students in mind. It is run by the Student Information Processing Board (SIPB) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Well there must be nothing particularly wrong with it, nor I am suggesting anything is amyss, I just said I want to be a devils' advocate.

Here are the reasons why

1) It is unusual for a faculty to put up a website on the students' community section (even when Ayyadurai himself had a student page in the same URL. How did I know ? from the Google cache http://74.125.153.132/search?q=cache:Pd4doM6Bxp0J:stuff.mit.edu/people/vashiva/index.html+http://stuff.mit.edu/people/vashiva/&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=in&client=firefox-a

I also find that page now moved to http://stuff.mit.edu/people/vashiva/activities.html How did I find it ? MIT guys are just fantastic, they have a superfast search facility on stuff.mit.edu

2) The homepage has been changed recently , as recent as last week, since it also has the fraudulently claimed "Nature" Commentary. It also has a image of Shiva Ayyadurai in poor pixels, which is very familiar to all of us by now, from the controversial Nature India.

3) What would a schoolkid do if he were to sell his graduate student page as a faculty page ? Simply copy the page from somewhere and change the contents. Simple. So being the devil myself, I tried doing that, and if you do so, it would save all the content images in a folder named "index_files" by default.

4) So what ? Nothing great though, I just tried this one, http://stuff.mit.edu/people/vashiva/index_files/ . Well whats great ? Hmm, nothing much other than I know whose page it was copied from . It is http://web.mit.edu/be/people/stachowiak.htm . How did I know ? Simple dude ...  I find a file

Nature India Editor should clarify on the Shiva Ayyadurai fiasco

We demand the Nature India Editor should come out and clarify on her role in the entire Shiva Ayyadurai fiasco.

The following are the events
1) Nature India publishes a one-sided version of the Shiva Ayyadurai story as a commentary. The Editor never wanted to publish the other side of the story nor wanted to even enquire what Shiva stated were true. She even tweeted this out at http://twitter.com/Subhrapr/status/6296242057 showing her involvement and interest in the entire event.

2) Nature India gags two Scientists' posts on the Nature Network Blog, even when they raised the issues with their names. If their allegations were not substantial, we do not think they would put their names at stake, while leaving the barrage of comments that followed untouched. Then why was the Shiva commentary on Nature India left untouched ? Were there no personal attacks on that article ?

3) Nature India Editor nor the copyrighters for Nature India have any issues with Shiva Ayyadurai who publicly republishes the entire article , with absolute disregard to copyrights. It has absolutely no issues with the commentary being fraudulently featured as from "nature.com" . Even after the Blogosphere erupted on the fraudulent behaviour of Shiva and the sudden change in the masthead following scathing remarks on the fraud on Nanopolitan, nature still seems to be mum about all this.

4) Posts against Nature India, Nature India Editor and Nature correspondent in India were unceremoniously removed from the "Freedom for Science" Blog, revealing the nexus between the Bloggers at the so-called "freedom of science" and Nature India Editors.

We demand an investigation into the unholy nexus between Nature India Editor and Shiva Ayyadurai and come out clean on the issue. If the Nature India Editors were professional journalists, it is unpardonable on their part to support "one" version of the story with absolute disregard to the "real" facts behind the episode. We smell a rat !!

No Free Lunches at Freedom for Science

If you thought "Freedom for Science" really meant what they said, you must be mistaken. The mouthpiece of the Shiva Ayyadurai team, today shamelessly deleted posts that were not in favour. The posts later appeared in Nanopolitan, another blog discussing the revelations by two CSIR scientists against Shiva Ayyadurai .

It is not a surprise that the so called "Freedom of Science" Blog is nothing but a farce and the intention is nothing but tarnish the image of Indian Scientists and CSIR Director General, Prof Samir Brahmachari in particular. This was a covert attempt to guard their backs while Shiva escapes the scrutiny of public for his misdeeds during his tenure as the CSIR tech head. Now that two named Scientists have come up against Shiva out in open, followed by the gag on the post by Nature India editors, it seems quite evident that there are many more players, probably also including the Nature India Editor in this entire scam.

Here is one of the Comment that got removed. Obvious that it pinched his "friends" in creating the entire drama.

Anonymous@Sunday, December 06, 2009 9:47:00 PM
Here is one of the comments that was removed from Freedom for science (Blog supporting Shiva):

The original blog at freedom for Science called for comments and support from Dr. Swapan Kumar Das. Here is what Dr. Das has to say on the Nature India episode as it appears in http://shiva-ayyadurai.blogspot.com/:

Now that the entire Ayyadurai Expose and V Patel commentary in nature Network has suddenly disappeared, it raises some interesting questions on the stand of Nature on this.

1) Is Nature India Editor hand-in glove with Shiva Ayyadurai and promoting this entire scam ? What is the incentive and what is the game-plan ?

2) Why is Nature India giving so much coverage and promotion, and selectively blacking out "real" facts from public. Is this what Nature India calls "professionalism" or "journalism" ?

3) What are the conditions in which an unsubstantiated and personal version of the story find its way to the Nature India website, and why are commentaries who tell the other side of the story summarily rejected ?
4)What is Nature Correspondent Jayaraman's stand on the Shiva Ayyadurai episode ? Now that Jayaraman has little words to write on anything significant in Indian Science, probably he should give way for somebody younger.

It seems that the whole plan of asking Dr. Swapan Kumar Das for support has back fired for Shiva.
------
This comment appeared for over an hour on the Freedom for science blog site before it was removed. Removal of this comment from the Freedom for Scinece Blog demonstrates the degree of transparency adopted by people who preach such things. Good try guys!!

This also substantiates what we blogged in our earlier posts. There is an intricate link between the Shiva Ayyadurai team and editors of Nature India. we are waiting for more details of this entire "conspiracy"

Nature India's high handedness in Shiva Ayyadurai the center of discussions

Bloggers at Nanopolitan, and elsewhere have taken it up seriously, and there have been serious exchange of words in the comments section of the Blog.

While everybody seems to agree (even the Shiva Ayyadurai supporting Blog Freedom of Science) alleges a high-handednesss shown by Nature in gagging free speech, unforthcoming of an organisation like Nature. The allegations of sudden blackouts on the Blogs without any warning seems to be unpardonable in light of Bloggers alleging Nature India editor's active role in the entire scam.

For new readers, even after the entire bunch of journos smashed him left and right at the very press meeting Shiva Ayyadurai organised in Delhi (his colleague Deepak Sardana was a mute spectator of the entire event), Natur India editor has taken it up seriously and started a new wave of angered posts on the Blogosphere against Shiva Ayyadurai and the Nature India Editor.

It also led to new allegations by other Scientisst abroad like Dr Swapan Kumar Das who alleged his blog was taken off without appropriate reason from the Nature comments sometime back. This blogger had been witness to this and his allegations.

Some bloggers on Nanopolitan even alleged that Nature India is playing pawn to teh CIA and its cronies, and there have been talks of demonstrations and protests against Nature and multinational companies who have been tarnishing Indian Science and Scientists.

Blogger alleges Shiva's connections

An anonymous blogger on nanopolitan alleges the Shiva Ayyadurai episode was a CIA tactic o discredit Indian Science. Here is the nonymous post reproduced in total.

Interestingly this is the third Blogger who has raised a serious issue on the way Nature and Nature India has been handling this entire episode. Adds support to the questions I have raised in one of my previous posts.

The part palyed by Nature seems to be a piece of the greater gameplan to discredit Indian science. The latest Thomson Report shows that India is catching up with the western world fast. Rate of growth also is impressive and is clear from the graph plotted by them. Therefore the conventional establishment of US administration which were dormant after the colad war years has now a new cause of worry. They have activated their cohort CIA to plant people who could discredit Indian science. nature India is just a small pawn. You may see that it is operated by kids who have no real journalistic experience to their credit. The real shot is called from elswhere.
The Blogger also quips
Look at who has written on Shiva episode after it died down in India. New York Times, Nature and now Nature India publishes Shiva to keep a simple case of a misfit as a controversy. All posts which favors Shiva as pointed out above is coming from US after India sleeps. So Nature is just a part of the plan by the same perpetrators. Shiva fits into the scheme as a plant. Please note that Fulbright gives one year fellowship to someone with no real paper. He comes with a nationalistic hue and tries to raise a rebellion. All this show that Shiva is a plant. But only that CIA also got scooped by this man Shiva Ayyadurai. They wouldnt have thought that this chap is no naive and the bloggers in India would burst their carefully laid out plans. So Anon 59, Nature has no game plan, they are only pawns. In 1990's they brought in TRIPS to rein in developing country science. Indian scientists proved smart in that game.

So there has to be a way to tame them. The more you see foreign journalist's interest in keeping such dead stories alive, you can very well understand the bigger gameplan. As America wakes up a little later, this blog will also be more active!

Jai Hind

Seems to take a completely new angle to the Shiva Ayyadurai episode in CSIR. Join this with his comments by Shiva Ayyadurai in the recent Nature India commentary on OSDD, which is now considered by media as a "killer" idea. Who else can lose sleep over the increasing registrations and acceptance of OSDD world over ?

Blog "Mysteriously" Disappears, says Freedom of Science

Freedom of Science Blog today says their Blog in Nature Network forum which had unverified statements on the recent Shiva Ayyadurai episode has mysteriously vanished.
A blog entitled "CSIR Leadership Exposed in Nature Article" has mysteriously disappeared.  This Blog was the leading one on the Nature India Forum with many comments as a follow up to Dr. Ayyadurai's article entitled "Innovation Demands Freedom" in Nature India.
The paranoia surrounding the Shiva Ayyadurai expose is so palpable that even the disappearance of the Blog was attributed back to "cronies" in CSIR . The Blog even goes to the extend to say

The History of Brahmachari and his protege's and coterie staying up day and nite to make up lies is well know.
Lost some sleep eh ?

Dr Swapan Kumar Das has something to say of Nature's Highhandedness in handling Forum posts

Swapan Kumar Das said...

My comment was also posted on Nature for 4 days and then disappeared for some reason.

Comments on the Shiva Ayyadurai Expose on Nature Network

  • This is interesting
It seems Brahmachari took the right decision to sack Shiva.
If you would like to see the series of frauds being unravelled, you should probably see this

  • I have been following the story , both at Nanopolitan , Nature and at HT. Looking back and putting all the connections and reading with this allegation that has come up against Shiva, there are a few points one can make

Shiva is a complete fraud and has no ulterior motive other than cheating and making money. He does not give a damn about India or its people, and rakes this issue just to gain a bit of popularity. All his blah blah about professionalism is crap.

Shiva has a fantastic history of selling “snake oil”, “paper companies” and atrocious “reports”. Anybody who could go through the CSIR tech report would readily agree on this.

His website has come up with a new redisgn. All but new crap . You can go through the very future of self-propaganda, the MIT brand of it. the earlier site featured a dancing Shiva turning Shiva Ayyadurai. What else do you need to judge the person ?

He is good at Photoshop. Can convert an innoculous blog in Nature India to a “Commentary in Nature” !! Fantastic skills, I should say

Now that he has gone to Boston, can take a dig here and there, as he has no other job to do (what elase can you do with failed companies). He claims to be the Director of a Center which is nothing but on “paper”. He incidentally also owns interesting domains like GOD.com and what not ?

  • Anony 1 raises some obvious questions, on Jayaraman, the Nature correspondent in India. Jayaraman never (never ever is probably the right word to say) writes anything good about Indian science. The only thing he writes is to take a dig here and there at people whom he does not like. looking back on his commentaries for the last few years, you need not need advanced statistics to prove what I am trying to say. I think Indian scientists have done some marvellous work in the last few years, including sending a spacecraft to moon.

When are you retiring Mr Jayaraman ?

  • I have been a student at CSIR, and I have been proud to say so. Many Institutes in CSIR are world class and pruduce World class research. Some of them include CCMB, and IGIB, just to name a few. I agree that there are many institutes that do virtually nothing, but thats true for lot of Universities and laboratories abroad. Ayadurai himself is an example how an Indian can virtually do nothing substantial even after spending close to a couple of decades in US and attending prestigious institutes like MIT. All he can claim of is a little known mail company and a fantastic, some call it bombastic website www.vashiva.com When these people lose their money in US, come back to india in the pretext of serving indians, while the fact is that they have nothing in mind other than $$. All these guys gang up and start india bashing, and I was surprised as a postdoc, in US that the real guys who do all this india bashing are frustrated indian postdocs who have not performed anything significant, or just came here for money. they have no love or dedication to their home country. the bashing is just a way to went out their frustrations.

  • I agree with Anony 5 I know Prof Brahmachari and he is a great thinker. I have seen him in IGIB spending enormous time with students and fellow faculty trying to do things that were branded impossible by others. I have also seen him succesfully transform CBT a godforsaken institute to what today people known as IGIB. The only wrong thing he did was probably to trust Shiva and help him.

  • From Nanopolitan , the hub of Ayyadurai debate
“I have only one comment: Ayyadurai may have a “fistful of American degrees,” but his tenure at CSIR was a disaster. For someone who was hand-picked by the top honcho, he had every opportunity to make his job a success — but he botched it. As Timmons’ story reveals, “Within weeks, he and his boss were at loggerheads.” [See also Ayyaduraii’s report — with its ‘Dedication’, the stuff in Chapter 7, the stupid ‘historical time-line’ in Chapter 1. If that damned thing is not unprofessional, I have to wonder what is…]"

  • I agree with Anonymous 7 Nanopolitan tells the fact
“When outsiders fail in their jobs, it’s natural for some of them to blame the environment, the ‘inefficient’ and ‘unprofessional’ culture of the natives. Timmons has been rather uncritical in peddling the stereotypes mouthed by those who failed in their jobs, fled, and now use martyrdom as a mask.”

  • Nanopolitan verifies the Shiva Ayyadurai Fraud on the Nature article and the Resume prominently featuring the misguiding “Nature” commentary. see post

  • Seems a bunch of guys have gotten around to collect interesting quips on the SHiva Ayyadurai episode. They call themselves the Shiva Ayyadurai Fan Club It seems the guys have live updates on whats happening around.

  • I know Mr. Vinod, an employee IGIB and protege of Mr. Brahamachari isone of the key architects of OSDD and its beneficiary - he prides himself on the number of registrants, the basis for justifying the nearly $40 Million OSDD has received. Deflecting the real issues by making allegations on Dr. Shiva Ayyadurai is something he has learned well from Brahmachari.

How are we going to believe YOUR story?

This too will come out in an inquiry. Your posturing of your “coming out of silence” seemingly to give us facts is hollow - another Brahmachari standard of faking sincerity.

As I understand, it is known that you and your cohort Mr. Sridhar at IGIB were starting your OWN company for DNA annotation and wanted to convince Dr. Ayyadurai to support it? Is there not a message that you received in which Dr. Ayyadurai told you that the Joint Secretary of CSIR would have to review the legality of your approach? Let us bring that out in the Public Inquiry that Dr. Ayyadurai has requested.

In fact, is it not true that a few others at IGIB, including VERY sr. personnel, decided to go do their own companies without CSIR involvement, in spite of Dr. Ayyadurai’s request for opennes and transparency to make it aware to CSIR. In fact, I’ve seen e-mail’s between Dr. Ayyadurai and others on this matter - if you want to pursue this, it will expose SR. Level personnel at IGIB.

The reality is that CSIR-TECH would have forced compliance and people like you and others didn’t want that - you would rather simply steal government property and start your own firms.

The important issue here is let us review all the evidence, papers, etc. in the light of day with TV, cameras, web, etc. Nearly all of us know the tactics of Brahamahari in making allegations - Dr. Ayyadurai’s predecessor Yogeshwar Rao was demolished by stating that he was out of integrity and wanted to get a Board seat on a Company - the reality was that Yogeshwar opposed Brahmachari’s model to start CSIR-TECH. Is there not an E-Mail by Yogsherwar Rao which cleary shows evidence of this?

CSIR-TECH document posted on website has provided evidence - in full view of the day.

I checked link provided by you that directs me to Dr. Ayyadurai’s resume. What is wrong if he has said that he has written a Commentary? Indeed he has written a Commentary that came out in Nature (and YOU have read it). A Commentary is a PUBLISHED ARTICLE that ONLY NATURE can request and approve——it is NOT A BLOG, do you know what a BLOG is?

The ONLY Blog you are referring in the Nature Forum, is the ONE I STARTED.

Yes, you have managed to PUBLICIZE OSDD very well. You have also got that in Technology Review. And so have DG managed to get good media coverage for his other projects like Soleckshaw, CSIR University, etc. No body is denying this great PR skills of DG!! In fact this is exactly what the article by Dr. Ayyadurai says, that is these things are outcome of good publicity — not any innovation or real engineering. And if there is any tangible and promised outcome to these then an “independent inquiry” will bring that out in public.

WHY SHY AWAY FROM THE OPEN FORUM MODEL that Dr. Ayyadurai has been asking for? Why can DG not accept it and stop using his protege’s like you to cover up his tracks with distractions?

  • Hello V Patel, also known as VA Shiva, What have you to tell about the fraud ? Whya re you detracting attention from the points raised by Vinod ?

  • Dear Patel, if you have the documents, why don’t you go ahead with the expose ? Why are you throwing stones from behind the wall. CSIR scientists would want to know who were all behind this. If you really mind your words, we would want you to put up the communications online. right here. No shadow war and allegations please

  • Shiva hypocrisy again. If you ahve something, what is it that is preventing you from exposing what you have ? Now taht CSIR scientists have come out in Open, exposing Shiva, and a clear Fraud he committed, also verified by others, what is it that Shiva has to say ? Well who are you, are you Shiva yourself as stated by Anony 13 or one of his PR cronies ? Do you want to say everybody else is stupid, including people who publish echnology review ? probably the next you would say is your poor PhD supervisor is stupid. We are ready to hear it Shiva. you have gone nuts . If you tell us where you are in Boston, we could call up a Psychiatrist.

  • This is a free world of blogospehere. Any one can write anything behind anonymity. However most of these comments are without any solid factual documents and based mostly on verbal or imaginary communications. One by Vinod Scaria, the IGIB faculty is of similar type; his entire narrative is based solely on some verbal communications. Where is the solid document to support his claims against Shiva Ayyadurai?

Vinod Scaria is a medical doctor by training with Bachelors degree in medicine (MBBS) from Calicut. He have a knack in computational methods and joined for a PhD program at IGIB under Dr Brahmachari on 2005 (co-guide Dr Beena Pillai). Before joining as the DG of CSIR, Dr Brahmachari was the director IGIB. Vinod was in the last batch of scientists appointed by Dr Brahmachari on 2007. Vinod Scaria is not a PhD yet, but for some unknown reason he got the job at IGIB. Most Indian university dose not allow a MBBS degree holder to peruse PhD (must get an MD). Relation between Scaria and Brahmachari is similar to that of Goebbels and Hitler. He is just a mouth piece of Brahmachari’s propaganda machine. So, his comment in parallel blogs (http://network.nature.com/groups/natureindia/forum/topics/6105
and http://shiva-ayyadurai.blogspot.com/) dose not count as solid evidence. Role of these blogs are solely to cover the feudal regime at CSIR by creating noisy information in the media.

A commentary by Shiva in Innovation demands freedom: V. A. Shiva Ayyadurai
doi:10.1038/nindia.2009.346; Published online 1 December 2009, is clearly in Nature India and not in the Nature Journal. It not a peer reviewed publication and simply a commentary. However, including this article as a publication in CV by Shiva does not count as fraud, it is rather ignorance.

Vinod is concerned about Shiva’s inclusion of a submitted article in Nature Biotechnology, but I think he should be more concerned about inclusion of an already rejected article in DG-CSIR’s CV page (http://www.igib.res.in/dg.html) as submitted article:

    132. The Indian Genome Variation Consortium (150 authors). S.K. Brahmachari et.al. Genetic Landscape of the People of India: a Canvas for Disease Gene Exploration.
Nature Genetics (2007) (Revised manuscript submitted).

This article is already rejected by Nature on 2008 and now published in Journal of human genetics published by Indian Academy of Science:
1: Indian Genome Variation Consortium. Genetic landscape of the people of India: a canvas for disease gene exploration. J Genet. 2008 Apr; 87(1):3-20. PubMed PMID: 18560169.

So, those who live in glass-houses should not pelt stone at others.

An inquiry commission by Govt. of India is much warranted in stopping this media publicity war and starting a real investigation.

  • Hi Anonymous, We all know you are Shiva and nobody else. if you are truthful and open and comment on throwing stones from behind walls, why don’t you come up in open and comment on this. What is the fraud you can show against Vinod ? I am a scientist at IGIB and know who Vinod is and what he does. people who have not published anything significant would not probably appreciate what he did and why he was selected. even the comment is full of factual errors (seems he did not even have time to write anything, just cut-paste from nanopolitan).

We have some points to raise and why are you running away from it ? we need clear answers, and tired of diversion tactics.

  • Shiva come on….like Anon 14 said we are still waiting for the docs to come online here right now….

  • Anonymous 18 aka Shyam Yadav, keep cheering for Brhamchari. That should be the spirit. Ha ha.

  • Well who is Shyam Yadav ? any new scam out here ?

  • Great Job. Any stupid could do that

  • Where is the first post regarding Dr. Ayyadurai By V Patel? Is this blog is hijacked by CSIR and Brambhachari cronies? If they have any rational and argument to place they can very well put it the the same thread.
I do not care if my identity is exposed.
I am not sure whhy antonymous #23 is posting that misleading comment in every post regarding Ayyadurai, CSIR and Brahmbachari. Does Nature blog moderator agree or disagree with what s/he is saying? If not please black list him from posting such misleading comment sand hijacking the forum.

THIS IS THE DELETED NATURE INDIA FORUM TOPIC. THIS HAS BEEN REPRODUCED HERE FOR ARCHIVAL
For Discussions on this topic, we would recommend you to can still follow the thread on Nature Network or on Nanopolitan

My name is Sridhar and I am a Scientist at CSIR. I think it is time people know who true Shiva Ayyadurai is and what he attempted to do at CSIR.

I first met him to explore the possibility of setting up of a start-up company under CSIR Tech. During this meeting, Shiva introduced himself as an expert in Systems Biology, however from the onset it was clear he had no clue of basic biological concepts (basic text book knowledge) that I was discussing. Couple of days later I got a call from him requesting for an immediate meeting. During this meeting his sole objective was to impress me to walk away from CSIR Tech and start a joint company with him and his VCs. This was completely unexpected from the so-called “Head of CSIR Tech”. I immediately brought this to the notice of my superior, who told me to play along with Shiva to see how far he goes. Therefore to lure him further into the trap and to get him interested in the company, we even set up decoy website of the proposed company. When he saw the proposed company website, he threw up a tantrum and finally suggested that the new start up company should start functioning immediately as a subsidiary of his already existing company at Chennai, India. For his help he wanted 30 percent personal stake in the new start-up.

Shiva had no clue that he had been exposed way before he could circulate his infamous report. Since then I have spoken to multiple scientist who have been in touch with him within CSIR and most have had a similar experience with him. He has been offering his private services (the so called experience of having run something like nine start-up companies in USA) to launch start up companies outside of CSIR Tech. This speaks volumes about who Shiva truly is and why he was shown the door out of CSIR.

Once he knew he had been exposed, in a last bid effort he circulated his hurriedly prepared report to gain a popular support of scientist within CSIR. He was hoping that several thousand scientists at CSIR would blindly follow him in his mutiny. Alas that did not happen!!

All his hype of returning to India to help Indian Science is pure bull****. He wanted to make some quick money by exploiting CSIR knowledge, however was caught red handed before he could do any serious damage.

I request more CSIR Scientist to come forward and share their experience with Shiva.

I think it is now time to break the silence, and come out with the real facts on Shiva Ayyadurai and my personal experiences with him. I am not particularly amused by the one-sided story he has managed to publish in Nature India Given the personality of this person, I cannot expect anything else.

I have met Shiva on multiple occasions in IGIB and in CSIR as the person heading CSIR Tech Programme, with some of my colleagues.

From day one, Shiva seemed to have no special interest in doing anything through CSIR Tech, but had always been trying to say it would be a really roundabout way to do it through CSIR Tech. Initially I found this quite funny (as he was the very person who was supposed to bring things straight !!), till we met him in CSIR office.

We had a prior appointment fixed with him, and were in office in time, but Shiva was never to be found. After waiting for almost half an hour, we rang him up. His response was rude, and instead of apologizing on the issue feigned ignorance on the entire appointment. He turned up later in the day, almost after a couple of hours and took us to his office.Even during this entire meeting, he had been constantly irritating us by talking on the phone, and he abruptly called off the meeting saying he had a call from his wife (speaks in volumes of professionalism and business etiquette)

In office he unveiled his entire gameplan, where he said he wanted almost 15% or more of stakes of any startup company as the person who brought in the business, and also offered us to start it outside CSIR -Tech through his Chennai based Millenium Productions, who would manage the entire operations underground. We just freaked out, as in our entire tenure in CSIR, both myself nor my colleague have come across an individual, occupying a senior position who had the guts or intention to do this in a government office (speaks lot of the ethics he carries) .He was so bombastic about his skills in running companies and he was competent to run the company. We felt this was a complete dereliction of duty as the head CSIR-Tech and also informed appropriate officials on this.

A few weeks later, he called up and asked about our opinion on his proposal which we blankly refused to honour. He started blaberring about knowhow in running companies and how somebody could not argue with him on how to run companies (read his “openness” to dissenting voices). In the conversation, he even advised me to stop working for OSDD as he felt it was a scam (probably not knowing what is OSDD and what it stands for. For the un-initiated, you could see what MIT, Shiva’s home institute have to say about it here ). Even after several polite requests to stop straying into things that were not part of his business, he had no intention to let go, including blaberring baseless allegations that he raised in the Nature India article. I lost cool and had to tell him to just shut up and mind his business.

In my experience Shiva Ayyadurai is one of the worst kind of Individuals I have ever met. He was completely paranoid with his ideas and had no intention or patience to listen to others’ views (which is primarily the allegation he raises against the current DG). He is a fraud by choice and an insincere person who cares for just money and nothing else ( I am not amused to find a Nature Biotechnology in his CV with the word “submitted” in small type and his claim to have written a commentary in Nature , while it is nothing but a Blog in nature India.see it for yourself here . The homepage even features a PDF with a complete nature.com logo). A casual search also reveals his so called “International Center for Integrative Systems” is nothing other than a website hosted at Chennai which also incidentally hosts Millenium Productions.

I am writing this with my complete name, and I am not afraid of telling the truth, and I know of many who have similar stories to say about this guy. I wish to see more people come up with their versions of their interaction with Shiva.

Joke of the Year 2009

International Center for Integrative Systems

Anybody heard of this Center ? What does it so ?
There is a fantastic website : http://integrativesystems.org/cis/index.html . Incidentally the News section had CISR insted of CSIR (now that has been corrected, it is fine with me, speaks lots about the person )

An internal investigation at the Shiva Ayyadurai fans Club revelas that the website was hosted from Chennai (not criminal I suppose, well there are lots of sites hosted from Chennai, and of course Chennai is headquarters of Millenium Productions).

Interestingly his Asia Pacific office has the same address No.1 Kuppuswamy Street.Well it could be co-incidental. The phone numbers also are the same
Tel: 91-044-4294 6555 | TeleFax: 91-044-4294 6514 see http://www.mproductions.com/mproductions/contact_us.html

That couldn't be co-incidental I suppose

The mission of the center seems to be really crap, it reads
Leading Institute for reseach in integration traditional and modern systems of art, science and technology. Within this broad mission, our current focus is on a project to integrate traditional systems of medicine with modern systems of biology.
I remember a journalist asking him in his press conference (which branded him as a fraud ). (well there are others including Nanopolitan which say so ) whether he learned Siddha over Coffee. I rest my case here.

Another CSIR Scientist Exposes Shiva

Another named Scientist exposes Shiva Ayyadurai tonoght on his Nature Network Blog. This time it is Dr. Sridhar Sivasubbu from the Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology

Excerpts from his blog
Shiva introduced himself as an expert in Systems Biology, however from the onset it was clear he had no clue of basic biological concepts (basic text book knowledge) that I was discussing.
It also reads

Couple of days later I got a call from him requesting for an immediate meeting. During this meeting his sole objective was to impress me to walk away from CSIR Tech and start a joint company with him and his VCs. This was completely unexpected from the so-called “Head of CSIR Tech”.
It takes a twist here
Therefore to lure him further into the trap and to get him interested in the company, we even set up decoy website of the proposed company. When he saw the proposed company website, he threw up a tantrum and finally suggested that the new start up company should start functioning immediately as a subsidiary of his already existing company at Chennai, India. For his help he wanted 30 percent personal stake in the new start-up.

The Unravelling of Shiva Ayyadurai

Nanopolitan writes of the Vinod Scaria's disclosure on Nature Network on the Shiva Ayaydurai episode. This is the first time, any CSIR scientists has come up in Open against Shiva.

excerpts from the Blog
Vinod Scaria has started a forum discussion thread on Ayyadurai at the Nature India website. Scaria is a scientist at IGIB (a CSIR lab), New Delhi; in his post, he says quite a few things that shatter Ayyadurai's self-portrait as a professional who -- before he gave up, or, was fired -- fought against immense odds for 'freedom for science' at CSIR.
Nanopolitan also verifies the Nature.com logo which has now suddenly changed to Nature India

For the stray reader here is what it looks like now !!

Fastest Indian

After getting banging from blogs posts all over, for fraudulent activity, camouflaging a Nature India blog post and selling it around as a "Nature Commentary", Shiva Ayyadurai suddently updates his homepage with a new screen caption, adding the "Nature India" logo this time.

The Resume section remains intact

We at the Ayyadurai fan club are witing for the change and calculating how many minutes it should take for Shiva to change it around

Shiva Ayyadurai on Nature India

From his hideout in Boston, after being chucked out of CSIR for a number of offences, including financial mismanagement, unethical behaviour and breach of conduct, Shiva Ayyadurai is back in news from Boston. His updates are available on Nature India

He also has put up his new website , which is now significantly improved , compared to the ridiculous earlier one.

This time there have been a few interesting allegations that he has come up with. In summary , it is
1) Everything in CSIR is a SCAM
2) Everybody else is a sycophant
3) I am the only right person
4) I am great

Hey, any Psyciatrists in Boston area ?
